Microsoft has launched video-based user verification for over 95% of its customers as part of its Secure Future Initiative (SFI), aimed at enhancing cybersecurity against threats like phishing and credential theft. Key advancements include:

Enhanced Monitoring and Incident Response: The company is improving threat detection with standardized security audit logs across its infrastructure.

Strengthened Identity Infrastructure: Over 73% of tokens from Microsoft Entra ID now use standardized validation.

Automated Token Signing Key Rotation: Future updates will enable automatic rotation of token signing keys to prevent mishandling, enhancing the security of user data.

Improved Network Security: Microsoft has implemented micro-segmentation and deployed over 15,000 secured devices, limiting Personal Access Tokens to seven days.

AI technology could assist individuals with speech impairments.

Voiceitt, an Israeli company, is tackling the challenges faced by individuals with non-standard speech when using smart speakers and AI assistants. Their AI-driven speech recognition system employs personalized voice models to help those with speech impairments, such as those from cerebral palsy or Parkinson’s, communicate more effectively with both people and devices. Launched as an app in 2021, Voiceitt started as a vocal translator, converting non-standard speech into audio by training the AI with user-recorded phrases.

Rising demand for AI could trigger the next global chip shortage.

A report from Bain & Company warns that rising demand for AI-focused semiconductors and AI-enabled devices, such as smartphones and laptops, could lead to the next global chip shortage. This mirrors the previous semiconductor shortage during the COVID-19 pandemic, driven by supply chain disruptions and increased consumer electronics demand. Technology companies have been aggressively purchasing GPUs, primarily from Nvidia, which are essential for training large AI models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
