In the past year, 94% of organizations affected by ransomware reported that the attackers tried to breach their backups during the attack. For government, media, leisure, and entertainment sectors, the figure rose to 99%. By compromising an organization’s backups, ransomware actors hinder the victim’s ability to restore encrypted data, thereby intensifying pressure to pay the ransom. Although offline backups are effective in safeguarding against threats, they can incur significant costs. Having inaccessible backups provides a secure source for recovery. However, small to medium businesses find them financially challenging to maintain. Consequently, targeting backups remains a lucrative strategy for attackers.

Upgrading to iOS 17.4.1 is Crucial

The technology giant released the latest update more than two weeks following the rollout of iOS 17.4. While iOS 17.4 introduced new features such as additional Stolen Device Protection options and transcripts in Podcasts for your iPhone, iOS 17.4.1 addresses several zero-day vulnerabilities that could be exploited by malicious actors. Zero-day vulnerabilities are security flaws that can grant unauthorized access to vulnerable systems in software or hardware. To install the update, go to Settings > General > Software Update, tap on Update Now, and follow the on-screen instructions. This update includes essential bug fixes and security enhancements and is strongly recommended for all users.
